In March 2016, many refugees (mostly - asylum seekers) were relocated from Athens or Greek islands to Epirus region for a long term accommodation. Our organisation was asked for an urgent help specifically in Doliana camp, which is located in a very rural place, about 50km away from Ioannina.
Our members and volunteers helped out at Doliana accommodation facility starting with the very first days. The urgent work was to assign new comers to rooms (which were very limited since the building was an abandoned school), to distribute food, to make a list with urgent necessities (clothes, diapers, baby food, medicine, etc) and to distribute donations. We also managed the translation between municipality workers and the refugees and we started to provide children with sports and drawing activities.
Since May 2016, youth workers and volunteers of YCE prepared and started to realize a recreational activity program for children of Doliana camp. The activity program consisted of sport and arts & crafts activities. In addition to our regular activities at the camp, our volunteers also assisted few needs of MSF (Doctors without borders), like colouring the doctor's offices in 2 facilities, building a tent for medical needs at one facility and distributing hygiene kits in all accommodation facilities for aslum seekers of Epirus.
